TACTICS OGRE
(Super NES & Sony Playstation)

Composers: Hitoshi Sakimoto, Masaharu Iwata & Hayato Matsuo

To be honest, I wasn't really impressed with Tactics Ogre's overall soundtrack. It's not as good as the original Ogre Battle's score despite that it was done by the same people. However, there is one song in particular that struck me, mainly because it's done in that signature Hitoshi Sakimoto style that he's so well-known for.

This is the version of the song from the Playstation remake of the game. At first, I couldn't decide which version I liked more, so I made them both available. However, since listening to them more, I can now say that I like the SNES version more.

This is the most outstanding song from Tactics Ogre and it's very similar to the Ifrit music from Vagrant Story, also composed by Hitoshi Sakimoto. I prefer the SNES version to the PS1 version.

    TALES OF PHANTASIA
    (Sony Playstation)

Composers: Motoi Sakuraba & Shinji Tamura

Note: These tracks are from the Playstation remake because they are superior in quality to the original Super Famicom versions, and FAR superior to the Gameboy Advance remake's versions. (I mean, what the holy hell happened there??)

Note that this is the Playstation version of the song. A slow, soft, western-ish lonely traveling melody. I don't know what this is from in the game because I haven't played it, but it sounds very nice! (And as I mentioned before, I'm a sucker for this type of music.)

I've never played Tales of Phantasia so I can't tell you for sure what part of the game this is from, but it sounds like a battle theme of some kind. It's far and away my favorite song from what I've heard of that game's soundtrack. What I've given you here is the version from the Playstation remake because trust me when I tell you that it sounds a lot better than the original Super Famicom version (especially the "dah-da-da-dah-dah-DAH-da-dah-DAHH" part at the end).

An awesome arranged guitar version of this song from the official soundtrack that I found at Galbadia Hotel! Hard to say which I like more.

TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES 4: TURTLES IN TIME
    (Super NES)

Composers: Kazuhiko Uehara & Harumi Ueko

Whether or not you like this game's music might depend on how familiar you are with TMNT and how much you like them. Some of these songs incorporate parts of the TMNT cartoon theme into the music. It's mostly done in pop-rock guitar style.

    (Nintendo 64 - 1998)

    Composer: Kenta Nagata

Despite the fact that I've barely played 1080 Snowboarding and know little about it, I ended up buying the soundtrack through Nintendo Power magazine many years ago. It wasn't the best purchase I've ever made, as a lot of the songs are kinda dumb and repetitive. I have gotten at least one request for some of these tracks, though, so here are the better ones.

  • Blue Flame
    Style/Mood: Hard Rock, Heavy Metal
    Comment:
Somewhat repetitive. Not sure what this is used for. That's about all I can say.

Also repetitive, but better than "Blue Flame".

This is the song that plays during the opening demo. Like "Grasp Power", it has lyrics, although with even more unintelligible "Cookie Monster" vocals.

I have no idea if this song is actually in the game or just a bonus track on the CD, but it's a remixed, longer version of the title demo music.

I really need to play this game someday. The music and what I've heard of the story has me so intrigued.

    TETRIS
    (Game Boy & NES)

I'm not coy in my opinion that Tetris is an overrated game, but I do like some of its music. Most of it seems to be based on Russian classical music or at least done in that style. (I didn't include Music C from the Game Boy version because it sucks and I'd be really surprised if anyone actually uses it.)

The first time I ever actually heard this music was on that crazy Captain N: The Game Master show and I swear there was a scene where they were running around and this was playing in the background. They used early Game Boy music on that show a lot, ever since "Game Boy" (the character) was added to the cast.

This one was definitely on Captain N, in particular the scene at the end of the "Puss n Boots" episode where Pero runs off into the sunset. Why they didn't use Puss n Boots music for that part, I don't know, except maybe they used it all up earlier and wanted something different for that scene.

Why does it seem like I'm the only person in the world who's played this game and considers it one of their favorites? Try finding information on it. It's like...impossible. Software Creations did some really excellent SNES soundtracks, and the title music on this one has to be heard to be believed.
