ZANAC
(NES) Composer: Miyamo Shant
One of the most fantastic, yet overlooked NES soundtracks in existence (sort of like the game itself). Miyamo Shant was a master of his craft.

Comment: Whatever happened to Miyamo Shant, anyway? He's like a god amongst NES composers, but after Zanac and The Guardian Legend, it seems he just disappeared.

Comment: One of the weirder songs in the soundtrack, but not one of the best.

Comment: Simple but memorable ending song. This made my original Top 50.

Comment: This song is only about 13 seconds long, but it's one of my favorite "Game Over" themes. The first few notes sound like Bach's "Tocatta & Fugue".

Title Theme Time: 1:03

Comment: The title theme isn't one of the better songs in the game, imo. Sounds a little too "happy" for my liking.

Comment: Several site readers have written in to inform me that this song can actually be heard during the game by using a code to change the background music on one of the stages. Since you're even less likely to find that on your own than the hidden sound test where this song can be heard, I'm still considering it an unused track. With that said, don't expect much out of it. There's probably a reason it was hidden.

ZELDA 2: THE ADVENTURE OF LINK
(NES) Composer: Akito Nakatsuka
I'm not really a huge fan of this game's soundtrack as I just think the sound quality is kind of ugly and the tunes aren't really as good or memorable as the best from the other games in the Zelda series I've played, but I do like Thunderbird Palace and the normal Palace theme is okay, too.
Battle Theme Time: 1:15
Size: 1.73 MB
2 loops with fadeout
Comment: This one's rather simple and not really all that special. Those 2 weird little notes in the middle of this one always bugged me.

Ending Theme Time: 1:21

Comment: The ending theme is okay, but sometimes I have difficulty remembering what it sounded like if I haven't beaten the game or listened to it in awhile.

Comment: The music for the Dark Link fight. Again, not really that special.

Overworld Theme Time: 1:39
Size: 2.28 MB

Comment: Not a real big fan of this overworld theme, either. The notes are all right on the beat, which makes it sound rather mechanical and it gets kind of sloppy towards the end.

Palace Theme Time: 3:14
Size: 4.45 MB

Comment: I put this one up because I got a couple of requests for it. I think it's okay, and I do like a lot of the fan remixes I've heard of it, so here's the original.

Thunderbird Palace Time: 1:13

Comment: The music for the final palace, aka, the Great Palace. This is the only song in this game I really like a whole lot.

Comment: For what it's worth, I think the title theme is okay, but could have benefitted from better sound samples.

Town Theme Time: 2:31
Size: 3.46 MB

Comment: Like the overworld theme, this one is okay for awhile, but then it gets messy near the end. Some of the music in this game just carries a feeling of having been rushed to me.

ZODA'S REVENGE: STARTROPICS 2

I seem to like this game a lot more than the rest of the world does, and here are some really good songs from its soundtrack.
