Aurora Taglisa

Aurora is one of the two headmasters of the Dark Mage School in Grimmora. (The other one is Crow.) Abandoned by her parents when she was very young, she is a creature of unknown origin and species. It is possible she is part demon-elf, as her albino skin and brightly-colored hair is consistant with that race, but her horns and abnormally long fangs indicate that she's either part something else, possibly a demon, or a mutant strain. Because of this, she was outcasted by many other races and often hides her form under her dark mage hat. Although she is a strange-looking creature, she has a very warm heart and a boisterous, robust nature that kept her going, no matter how bad things got.

Aurora learned of her dark powers very early in life, which prompted her to go to the Dark Mage School. She has lived there ever since and still works there as a teacher. Despite her tragic past, Aurora is usually in good spirits, although she's a bit absent-minded. Her colleague, Crow is actually much more cynical and cranky than she is, and she sometimes finds him a little annoying.

Aurora eventually became the foster mother of Nucleo Amadeus McRaven. When he was about 8 years old, he learned of a plan by his wicked parents to sell him into slavery in the mines (a practice not uncommon amongst mountain devils with unwanted children.) Nucleo ran away to avoid this fate, and like Aurora, he knew he had magical powers consistant with that of Dark Mages, so he made his way from the continent of Aridia all the way to the school in Grimmora. But he was starved, sick, and almost dead by the time he got there. Aurora immediately took him in and cared for him until he was back to full health. Although Crow insisted the child should be returned to his parents and that keeping him illegally might cause trouble for both them and the school, Aurora had already grown attached to him and refused to send him back to a life of slavery. She also surmised that mountain devils would probably not come out of seclusion to search for what they'd consider a worthless slave whom they've most likely assumed was dead by now anyway. Thankfully, she was right. She taught Nucleo how to read, write, and use his magical powers.

Although she is not his biological mother, Aurora has never stopped thinking of Nucleo as her son. It is probably through her care and strong spirit that 'Cleo did not become cynical about the world as many of his associates, like Stefan Ferguson and Bazil Kyradius, have. Image Arcane, who would later become Nucleo's wife, also studied in classes at the Dark Mage School under Aurora's teaching.

In my old drawings of Aurora, I never showed what she looked like without her hat. Dark Mages in the world of Image Arcane, as in other things like the Final Fantasy games, can hide their appearance by wearing robes or hats that make them look all "shadowy". When creating what Aurora would like without her Dark Mage hat, I lifted the design from an earlier character named "Taglisa" and modified it. Taglisa was originally planned to be a demon vampire villainess, but I never actually used her and have no plans to, so I thought I may as well apply the design to another character and the results for Aurora are rather fitting.

All of my old pictures of Aurora show her cloaked. She's rather goofy-looking here.
