Eddy Blythe
![]() (Click for larger image.) Eddy Blythe, along with his twin sister Jade, is a powerful demon-elf working for CRASHER under the command of General Ghestov Sal-Yun. Although his magic is powerful, and he is somewhat of a good physical fighter, Eddy is, unfortunately, not very bright. His missions often fail because of his bumbling antics and arguing with Jade. Miyoko-8 usually has to bail them out of tough situations. (Though Miyoko is often understandably annoyed by Eddy's incompetence, it seems she does care about him, possibly more than she'll ever show.) Eddy joined CRASHER because Ghestov promised him a part of the world to rule once they've conquered it. He is too gullible to think for a moment that Ghestov may not keep such a promise. Although the names "Eddy" and "Jade" are real-life human names, the use of them here is sort of a pun. Demon-elves always take their names from objects in nature (hence, "Image" and "Zephyr" Arcane). Eddy, of course, is named after the swirling circular water currents. Unfortunately, Eddy does not have much character developement. He and Jade existed in the old Image Arcane comics for the sole purpose of being a bumbling comedic villain duo, a tradition in cartoons that goes back at least as far as Boris and Natasha in Rocky & Bullwinkle. One of the funniest sequences I can remember writing was one in which Eddy and Jade were assigned the mission of kidnapping Jack Sheen, a character who has wings because he is a Waterlily Dragon. Not knowing what a Waterlily Dragon looked like, Eddy and Jade kept bringing back all kinds of winged animals to the CRASHER space fortress, which, not surpisingly, angered Ghestov more and more with each one. Eddy and Jade's designs also changed quite a bit from the older versions. Eddy had the ability to transform into a snake-like creature, and I more often drew him that way than in his "humanoid" form. Jade's design was drastically different. Even her name wasn't "Jade", it was "Heretica", and she wore a much different costume and even had a monocle strapped over one eye. What inspired the change was a bizarre dream I had in which I saw a woman encased in glass who looked pretty much like what the modern version of Jade looks like now. Because I made changes to Jade, I also made changes to Eddy, and thus born was the concept of the Image Arcane demon-elf. |
