Oddities 22: Switched at Birth? Part 5: Aliens Special

And now I bring you, lots of game enemies that look like Alien!

Gluttony from ActRaiser 2

Enemies in Biometal (SNES)

The Krell from R-Type

(Thanks to Crawl and 1000 for this pic.)

Over Horizon's Final Boss

Goddess Tyr from Breath of Fire

Red Falcon from Contra

And these look like Facehuggers

Robo-Manus from Battletoads

Queen Metroid from Metroid 2

Ridley from Metroid

TMNT Pizza Monster

Super C Eggs & Facehuggers

Jagger Froid from Super C

Super C Alien

ActRaiser 2 Alien Ants

Breath of Fire 2 Chiroru
(Looks and acts like a Facehugger)

Breath of Fire 2 Terrapin
(Thanks to CB007 for these two pictures.)

Frieza in Form 3 from Dragon Ball Z
(Yes, I know this is from the anime and not the games, but who's keeping score?)

Another Contra Boss

Gradius 2 Eggs & Facehugger

Ninja Gaiden Demon Statues

Jaquio from Ninja Gaiden 2

The Jaquio scene reminds me a lot of the scene in Aliens where Ripley comes face-to-face with the Alien Queen.

Contra 3 Red Falcon
Picture from Contra Headquarters.

R-Type 3 Krell
Picture from The OPCFG.

Scullion from Final Fantasy 6

Dracula from Castlevania: Symphony of the Night

The Scullion was submitted by site reader Jason Krietsch. It has an Alien-like head.
I noticed the Dracula thing while I was at the Castlevania Dungeon. Take a look at those heads surrounding him.

Clancy's 2nd Form from Ninja Gaiden 3

The Xenophobe Alien

Above Left: Okay, if there were any doubts that there is "Alien" influence in the Ninja Gaiden games, this would've quelled them. Actually, I'm not even sure this is Clancy. Once you beat him, this chestburster-thing pops out of the wall. Now that I think about it, nothing in Ninja Gaiden 3's story made much sense, but oh well. Above Right: Submitted by James FP, "You might want to add the Xenophobe cover to the Aliens "Switched at Birth" page. If that isn't an Alien rip-off, I don't know what is."

The final boss of Conker's Bad Fur Day

Freddy from Castlevania 2 (right)

The Conker's Bad Fur Day enemy is definitely on purpose. You can even see the airlock behind him in that screen capture. I've mentioned before that I think the "Freddy" enemy from Castlevania 2 looks like the Alien from the first Alien movie, but it's hard to tell from a screenshot. You'll have to see him in the game and judge for yourself.

Third boss of Journey to Silius

The Space Jockey from Alien

Here's an interesting one submitted by Kairobi King. He said that the third boss of Journey to Silius looks like the Krell from R-Type (pictured above), but I actually think this boss was based more on the giant Space Jockey from Alien.

Quintesson from Transformers (series version)

Quintesson from Transformers (movie version)

This guy definitely has the Alien-head thing goin' on. Pictures from seibertron.com

The Ship from Secret of Evermore

The Narcissus

I think the design of the ship from Secret of Evermore was more than a little inspired by the Narcissus from Alien and Aliens. If not, then it's an amazing coincidence.

Alien from Kid Dracula

Garamoth from Kid Dracula

I wonder if the appearance of the Alien in Kid Dracula could also be interpreted as a homage to the Red Falcon of the Contra games? Garamoth, the final boss, has the elongated Alien head, even though the rest of him looks different.

Subatom from R-Type 2

Level 6 Boss of Super EDF

I thought I'd finally put up a picture of the Subatom from Super R-Type and R-Type 2 (essentially, it's the Krell with body armor). What's funny is that not only do these two bosses both have the Alien-like head but they kind of resemble each other, too.

Turrican Boss

Turrican 2 Enemies

Both submitted by Espilonarge. Screenshots from The Turrican Website.

Turrican 2 Egg & Facehugger

Turrican 3 Boss

Both submitted by Espilonarge. Screenshots from The Turrican Website.

Queen Slug-For-A-Butt from Earthworm Jim

Life Virus from Mega Man Battle Network

Queen Slug-For-A-Butt submitted by Codie Martin. Life Virus submitted by Fenrir X.

Alien-headed robots in the Lamda Tournament and Flying Castle of Arc the Lad: Twilight of the Spirits.

Alien

Predator

Verdugo
(Resident Evil 4)

Submitted by Will Keaton

FO's Comment: I'll bet it's scarier than the real "Predalien" will be in Alien vs. Predator 2.

Submitted by Andrés from Argentina. The level 20 boss of Bubble Bobble 2 looks like an alien head on wheels. Even the surrounding stage graphics look Alien-like.

FO's Comment: Boy, that is a weird thing to put in a cutesy-ish game like Bubble Bobble...
