Oddities 17: Aidyn Chronicles Craziness!

Possessed Poplar?

If you thought the original release of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time was glitchy (remember Swordless Link?), then you should see Aidyn Chronicles: The First Mage. Although I think this is a pretty decent RPG, it is probably one of the glitchiest games I have ever played! First of all, with the magic of my video capture card, I have to show you what has to be one of the most unintentionally hilarious graphical errors I've ever seen. Take a look at the tree in the middle of this screenshot:

Did you notice anything strange? That's right! The tree is clearly detached from the ground and floating in the air!! In fact, it's so high off the ground, that Alaron can run underneath of it. At first, I thought maybe this was some kind of special floating tree that would have some significance, but no, it appears to be just a programming error. This is not photoshopped. It is not a Gameshark code or anything like that. This tree can be seen like this plain as day. To get to it, you'll have to make it to the bog area, then go east to the coastline. Start going south, and you'll come to a place where the bog and beach "meet". This tree is right around that area somewhere. Here are a few more screenshots showing the tree at a different angle (the second one I captured just as the moon came up):

I discovered another neat glitch that's reminiscent of those Zelda 64 glitches that would let you walk outside the playing field. Anyway, I found an area in the desert area (somewhere northwest of Ugarit) where Alaron can go right through a wall and partially out into open space beyond the playing area! From there, you can see parts of the area floating around in space. Here's a screenshot of it:

Again, no codes or special glitches were used to achieve that screenshot. I wish I could explain exactly where this occurs, but it's difficult since the game world is so large and confusing and it doesn't have an in-game map. (Or at least, not a very detailed one.) But I wonder if you could walk through walls elsewhere...Here are some more pictures of this glitch, these two showing Alaron standing in pure sky:
